BELTON, Texas (KWTX) - Avenue D will be extended to create a new entrance into the Belton Business Park, reducing traffic. Constructions coincide with a TxDOT project to expand Loop 121.

A $2.4 million bid from Gate & Cade Construction for the expansion of Avenue D was approved by the Belton City Council in July 2024. The Belton Economic Corporation will use revenue generated from a sales tax to fund the project.

The project includes infrastructure improvements for additional development that could occur at the park.

A traffic impact analysis of the Belton Business Park revealed that area to be a high-traffic area.

The Belton Economic Corporation’s executive director, Cynthia Hernandez, said TxDOT’s project to expand and add a light to Loop 121 motivated the BEDC’s board of directors to approve the extension of Avenue D.

“The timing of this project is important because we wanted the road to be completed when TXDOT finishes the Loop 121 project,” Hernandez said.

The project will extend Avenue D to intersect with Kennedy Court.

Hernandez said the reduced traffic from the new entrance would benefit businesses and residents around Belton Business Park.

“It’s the ease of getting from point A to point B. It’s the ease of getting to work or your destination within the Business Park,” Hernandez said.

Construction began in Aug. 2024. The project is expected to be completed at the beginning of 2025.
